PS3's CoD3 has Online Multiplayer

by CodeMonkey| Published: Tuesday, October 10 @ 11:57:41 EDT
After Tony Hawk's Project 8 (PS3) was said to be multi-player-less our brow raised towards other game developers - is this going to be a standard on early PS3 titles? No.

Call of Duty 3, for the PlayStation 3, will indeed be multi-player networked from day one. Of course, the Xbox 360 release will also support full multi-player but that console has been out for a year (and CoD2 had multiplayer).

Treyarch, the group developing Call of Duty 3, says "yes" to multi-player on all platforms CoD3 will be released on. Good news for Sony because it proves that not all developers are "rushed" to get a product out the door without multiplayer.

Now you must be asking yourself "Call of Duty 2 had basic level functionality for networking at product launch, will part-3 be the same?" - No, that's the word on the street. The next release of this WWII FPS simulator will support, out of the box, 24-player online gaming across many game modes which includes the classic deathmatch and capture the flag.

No worries gamers, this product should launch without a massive network patch.

Yeah, so, they are almost catching up to the 360 in features? Not good enough Sony.

I can't wait for the 360 version. There is a new game mode called "WAR" that is kind of like "King of the Hill" in Halo 2. This, and the new player class system ala Team Fortress, have this looking like a must have for whatever system you can get online with. 24 players... awesome!

If Sony doesn't stress to it's developers that multiplayer on-line play is important, than they don't really have a chance to beat the 360.
