Microsoft Refuses To Acknowledge Major Wireless Headset Flaws

by doodirock| Published: Friday, November 17 @ 15:39:04 EST
Did you buy a wireless headset for your Xbox 360? If it doesn't work your not alone.

Weeks after the release of the new Wireless 360 headset, many customers have complained about hundreds upon hundreds of documented flaws with no official response or product recall from MS. Everything from continuous disconnects, no connections, and major feedback have caused customers to exchange, return, or simply dump the faulty headsets altogether.

The once "stickied" official thread for the headset on Xbox.com has convienently been unstuck as the list of complaints has grown to over 10 pages of complaints and demands for an answer. Even on Teamxbox.com a similar thread has been filled with almost the exact same complaints. Other smaller threads and post on other gaming sites seem to express the equal dissatisfaction to the expensive and otherwise non-functional headsets.

2old2play has spoken with several of it's own members and can also confirm that the headsets are plagued with 3-5 sec timeouts that can occur up to once every 20 minutes. A call to the Xbox Help Line proved to be useless, as we were told they were "not aware of the problem." We were also told to turn off all wireless devices in the house to minimize issues. This means no wireless routers, microwaves, cell phones, or cordless phones. After reviewing the posts on Xbox.com it seems that even by shutting all these devices off, many people experience the same problems. Some can not even get a clear signal when standing only 5 feet away.

For the sake of it's customers we can only hope that Microsoft will take to time to address these major issues and support the products it releases. After all who wants a $60 paperweight?

If you have had similar problems, we encourage you to call MS and let them know about it or post some comments in our forums.

Forum Documentation can be found through Xbox.com and Teamxbox.com at the URLS below.

What could perfectly compliment a console with a 30% failure rate at launch? An accessory with a 30% failure rate! Thats right, a perfectly matched set.

Personally I admire Microsoft for branching out into new areas of consumer merchandising. I know I wish I could run my business that way. "Here is a poorly made product." "But, it doesnt work as promised." "Call our non-english speaking tech support. NEXT!"

Complete refusal to acknowledge the problem. BRILLIANT! I wish I would have thought of it first.

As is ServiceNet, my warranty company for my laptop. I sent it in for repairs and they sent it back unfixed telling me its under manufacturers warranty. After never getting called back I finally got a manager's email address and hounded them. It's going back into the shop (since its NOT under manufacturers warranty).

Needless to say, I've had plenty of horrid experiences in the realm of tech support that make Microsoft look like a great smelling rose.

Not that I'm defending them. My headset, however, works fan-tastic.

The wired one has several flaws:

1. The connection point on mine are all screwed, if I just tap it starts giving wicked echo to gamers I'm online with.

2. The headset gets in the way, and is a bitch to find a place to store around my system without the wire getting tangled (as wires do).

3. My kids drag the thing all around the house by that wire (see problem #1 for result).

The wireless one is small, I don't even know its on, and unobtrusive. In situations where it doesn't suck (i.e. my house) it works great.

However, given it uses 2.4Ghz over a bluetooth method I can see why it could be the suck if you live in a big city or around a lot of "sounds" and such.

I pre-ordered this at buy.com and I'm lovin' it. Mine works fine 99.5% of the time. There are occassional dropouts but I come to expect that in my environment.

I have 5 wireless access points in my house, 4 cordless handesets for my phone system and the good old microwave. Even with all that interference, I have occassional drop -out when I venture too far from the 360. The sound quality seems to have imporved since the first day I got it, according to people I play with/against.

I don't dicount the fact that there are probably issues. I have had much worse problems with a blue-tooth headset for my cell phone and various wireless setups for keyboard/mouse on the computer.
