Halo 3 Beta Invites Going Out This Week

by GO_BLUE| Published: Monday, January 22 @ 11:52:00 EST
Bungie has updated the Halo 3 website to give a recap of ways to get into the H3 beta. Note that the first round of invitations will be distributed to the randomly chosen entries this week (1/22 - 1/28 ).

The invitations will be sent out via e-mail to those chosen from the 'first stage' of beta entry--those filling out their information on www.halo3.com after the commercial aired on Monday Night Football last December.

The site update goes on to give details on the two other ways of entering the beta; through the 'Rule of 3' program and by purchasing marked boxes of the upcoming MGS game 'Crackdown.'

It also looks like the 'Rule of 3' program has changed a little--registration does not seem to be first come first served until February 5, meaning interested gamers won't have to stay up all night on February 1 getting their 3 hours in and rushing to the website to enter. The site also officially states the 'Rule of 3' option is open to Canadian residents. We've pasted the official rules below right from Bungie's site so you can make your plans to be among the next 13,333 to get into the beta

Rule of Three Program

The "Rule of Three" program is currently planned for gamers (17 years and older) in the 50 United States (includes District of Columbia) and Canada who have access to an Xbox 360 Pro console or an Xbox 360 Core console with hard drive, a valid Xbox Live Gold subscription and the Halo 2 game.

It is a two-step process:

1. Participate in at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer sessions on your Xbox 360 console via Xbox Live during the three (3) day period beginning February 1st at 12:01 am EST and ending February 3rd at 11:59 pm EST.

2. After the three day window is over, head back over to www.halo3.com on February 5th and register.

If you are one of the FIRST 13,333 to do this (and meet the above requirements) you will receive an invite notification in February to participate in the Halo 3 Beta.

Please note that if you registered to participate in the Halo 3 Beta during Phase One and were not selected, that does not preclude you from registering again for during Phase 2.

Please let us know if you're lucky enough to get picked so we can focus our envy & harass you for impressions!

I wonder if Gamestop will be able to fulfill all the preorders for Crackdown with Halo 3 beta entrance codes as they promised. I could see too many people preordering than they get stock for codes and having many angry people who put down their cash for the guarantee of being on the beta testing team. 360 preorder shortage shenanigans all over again.

$60.00 to play a beta. Not even a finished version, but a game with bugs in it? Might that spoil the splendor of the actual game when it finally comes out.

Don't get me wrong i wanna play the beta too! But I'm not gonna get charged twice for one game. Sorry M$ I am not that addicted. Sure it comes with crackdown, but who wants to play that?

I'm just gonna go rent it when it comes out and see if that works.

This is a momentous event for members of the Halo Nation. I am an avid Halo 2 player and I would appreciate being part of the Beta testing for XBL multi-player. I hope weight is given to consistent XBL Halo 2 players. The upcoming MS Law of Three event is another crack at the Beta but any would-be-gamer with XBL and a Halo 2 disk can qualify for that draw too. Then there is the last draw for those who can buy their way into anything. This latter method irks me a bit. If I don't make it into the Beta via the first two methods then there is still the Crackdown acquisition. I'll probably buy it if I have to, but believe me, it'll be months, if ever before I play that game. I really dislike being coerced into buying something I don't want.

Giving weight to "consistent" XBL Halo 2 players would irk me. I have played and continue to play H2 my fair share. The problem is I play on my 180 using a different gamer tag than I do on my 360. And as far as the Crackdown thing goes... *sigh* Good thing I kept that Best Buy gift card from Xmas.

Lucky for you who every got the invite already.

I am mighty pissed about the whole thing cause the only way for me to get the beta is to buy crackdown pretty scummy if you ask me.
Pay £39.99 for a game that is so crap you wouldnt bother putting it out if it was on fire. I dont agree with this look at it as though your paying for teh beta and getting a game free cause then i will have to pay the same if not more for Halo 3 when it come out.

I play this game probably as much if not more than anyone on here on this gamer tag alone i have played over 3000 games of team sniper alone and i then have another 6 accounts which i have used over the last year so why should i suffer?

On bungie there is somone who dosent even own a 360 got an invite then there is someone who has played 50 games in total on Halo 2 onlne and they got an invite whilst the rest of us have to pay money to do Bungie a favour and find out any problems for them.

This isnt Bungie`s fault in so much that MS has seen a little money maker by putting it with Crackdown but they should make it across the board why should you get it cause your American and not me cause I am Bristish?

I am actually thinnking about lookng this one up and see about the racism route cause i have had my fill of it all we always suffer.

Sorry for getting all serious but i am mighty annoyed about it all.

Please not one funny remark about me being british and have a cup of tea to calm down not apropriate.
