Crackdown Disc Required To Play The Halo 3 Beta

by GO_BLUE| Published: Friday, February 09 @ 10:21:37 EST
Sure enough, Microsoft found a way to make sure people interested in the Halo 3 beta buy copies of Crackdown and not simply rent them...

Looks like the Crackdown disc is not only required to download the H3 beta - it is required to access the beta each time its played.

In fact, according to the card accompanying the game, people must go through Crackdown to play the beta, not the Xbox dashboard like other demos and arcade games. For those unlucky people not choosen for the previous two Halo 3 beta entry contests, actually buying Crackdown really seems to be the only option left.

Looks like there will be a limit on how long the beta will be available to play..........obviously you probably need to be signed up within the first few months, or you will be out of luck!!!!

You knew MS wouldn't let it be as easy as renting it lol....But looks like when its over I can go ahead and trade in Crackdown. The Halo games are about the only ones I ever keep for good. Now I wonder how long the Beta will be available.

Of greater interest is the part that says...

"WHEN the Halo 3 Beta becomes available..."

Which alludes to the fact that people who buy Crackdown might not be able to play the demo straight away. It might just be tne company covering it's ass but the people who buy Crackdown just to play the beat and then not get to play it right away are gonna be pissed.

Snahfu-

There's a big difference between a Halo 3 demo and a beta. I suspect the beta will be multiplayer only. I believe I read somewhere that it's two maps.

I think what they're trying to say about "when it becomes available" is that it is NOT currently on the disc. Hence a download Halo 3 Beta option that will either become available when the beta does or just won't work until the beta is available.

To those griping about having to buy a game to enter the beta-

This was NOT the only option Microsoft gave. There were two others: the registration process as well as the rule of three. I can understand the criticism if buying Crackdown was the only way to get in, however, as stated, this was not the case.

Expect Microsoft to charge for the Halo 3 demo when it becomes available. Why? Because they can. Luckily, gamers would not tolerate this type of behavior for any game.

It seems like the Halo addicts are in full force in here. Worst game you've ever played? C'mon! Is halo the only game you've ever played? Sounds like you're a crack whore who just cost the price of her fix raised. If you don't like the idea of buying a game to play the beta, don't buy the game. I can tell you right now, The H3 beta is going to a miserable experience. It's out so they can find where the game is broken. You know, pretty much like the first six months of H2. I'll wait for the finished product and just let you all do all the "testers' jobs. And pay to do it at that.

I was hoping it was a code that I could sell. I'm buying Crackdown to play Crackdown and I don't really care about the Halo Beta. I guess I might play the beta once or twice since I'll be stuck with it.

I've been in many a pc beta many onlone pc games. not once did I have to buy a game just to get into a beta. it a lame way to inflate ones selling of a game. that by no means would hold its own if it didn't come with a halo beta.

of cource beta is total chaos. thats what i love but i'm not buying a game just to get into it. (beta)
