by DSmooth| Published: Monday, June 30 @ 09:11:39 EDT

After a 16+ month hiatus, a surprise unofficial episode of 2old2type Radio is here.

This is a very short episode of 2old2type Radio, but a very important one. Do you miss 2old2type Radio? Do you want to see it return? Listen to this podcast, then hit up the Bring Back 2old2type Radio petition. Hopefully this will serve as the necessary stimulus to get doodi back to podcasting.

This did sadden me when the podcast went away, it inspired me to create my own gaming podcast. My wife and I are now going into episode 77, we started AFTER 2old2type faded away. We've had to build an audience from 0 to over 4,000 downloads a month, it's taken a lot of hard work and energy to pull that off.

To know that 2old2type has 4k+ consistent viewers, this means we could have made the cast huge in terms of audience, especially over the last year. Once you've got a nice base you can start marketing campaigns and actually pay the folks doing the cast (and guest hosts) based on revenue generated from the sponsors.

Podcasts help build community or expand on one that already exists. By itself, it's only half the challenge. But, complimented with forums, news, blogs, you've got a fully four dimensional experience. Only a small portion of the Internet has listened to a podcast, and it's growing quickly, you really want to be in the loop when it takes off.

A weekly podcast about gaming with high energy, focused structure and good audio techniques would win the crowd. I think it can be done, it's worked for me and I'd enjoy being part of a 2old2play experience as well.

I let google do it for me :-)

If I wanted to plug I'd just hot link it right in :-)

Once we get Derek a pop screen and he draws up some show notes, we've got all the technology needed for a podcast. Skype, a computer and a dream! :)

Honestly i couldn't give a shit if the podcast is video, actually if i were video it would lessen the opportunity i would have to listen/watch. So if that's th ebig hang-up, just stick to audio. It's probable and can go everywhere and would be my preferred media type. If you did video honestly it would probably be minimized in the background and i'd just listen to it anyway.

Video podcasts typically require full attention, otherwise there is no reason to have a video podcast considering the medium, bandwidth and expenses for transporting it.

Usually, a five minute video five times a week tends to work well (you just record them all at once and split up the content). That depends on the actual goal of the show. If it's to mimic more of what was done a year or two ago, you want audio as its a passive experience, can be listened in the car, on the PC, etc. so you'll can make them longer.

Audio is easier to handle and mix down, that's for sure.
