Retread MW2 news, BC2 Links...

Hey, I really like your... guns!

As noted in the first link below, fourzerotwo has resumed tweeting after a 5 day absence. No news on the Infinity Ward/Activision lawsuit, but Joystiq has an interesting analysis of the suit, Law of the Game. The featured vid today is Akimbo Slice laying waste to the Timmies with the MG4. Also included is the Michael Barnes "No Russian" machinima tweeted yesterday by fourzerotwo. On to the links:

A Little Backstory

Just what the Internet needs, another blog.

Writing's been a hobby of mine for years that I've fallen out of touch with. The wife, and some friends, have been bugging me to get back into it for some time now. I figured; what better venue than my favorite gaming community site? So, after weeks worth of background picture hunting and amateur photoshopping here it is; Soylent White's blog.

I've never had a blog before. To be honest, I've hated them down to their very name. Blog. It just sounds dumb. Until recently, I've never really understood the need to keep people constantly updated about my life. Thanks to getting married, buying a house, and all the other stuff that entails, all of a sudden, my life is worth sharing. I do enjoy reading the posts here on 2old and I hope to mimic the candor of most of the blogs here. I figure I'll throw my hat into the ring and see how it goes.

About me: I'm currently 30 years old, been with 2old since the day I turned 25. If anyone's doing the math based on my join date they don't match up because I forgot my original login and created a new one. Being the progeny of an electrical engineering professor and a chemistry teacher, I've got geek DNA. I enjoy sci-fi which is where my gamertags come from. "Soylent" from the classic movie "Soylent Green" and "White" as a pun on the title and my last name. It also serves to weed out Timmies as most of them have no idea what that movie is. I've been a gamer since very early in life when my parents bought me a Texas Instruments console. I didn't really go "hardcore" until I went to college and could afford the consoles myself. By trade I'm a "mobile installer." I do car audio/video/security installs. Like most jobs, it's good, but would be better without the customers. If cars could drive themselves to my shop (and pay;) I'd be in heaven.

I was born in Buffalo, NY, but spent most of my life growing up around Atlanta, GA. I went to the University of Georgia and settled there in Athens, GA, for a decade or so. I recently immigrated to Canada from the United States. I didn't bail because of Bush or terrorists or anything stupid like that. I was moved by the most powerful force on this planet; the love of a good woman.

My wife is an avid gamer herself. In fact, we met playing video games. We were both in the same linkshell (guild) while playing Final Fantasy XI Online. After years of playing together we met up in person as part of a real-life guild meeting and totally hit it off. After flying up and visiting a few more times over the next couple years we decided to elope and start the immigration process. Now I'm a permanent resident of Canada with a year or so left before I'm eligible for dual citizenship. It's a fun story to tell the (eventual) grandkids. If anyone ever tells you that you're wasting your life playing video games then refer them to me. I'll set those ignorant individuals straight.

Those are the main points for me. My apologies if it's a little erratic. As I said before I'm a little out of practice. You can expect to see a good deal of verbiage from me in the near future. Since I haven't been writing for a while I've got a lot of things stored upstairs that need an outlet. Hopefully my brain and fingers can turn them into something worth reading.

Cheers!

Life and busy

I luv that I still get hits even tho I haven't blogged for ages.  Life is coming at me so fast,  I have little time for anything else.  I am job hunting in Virginia, and have had a couple of good bites, one in Williamsburg, the other in Norfolk.  I am told that if I work on "the other side of the tunnel" it will be a nightmare getting there every day.  The tunnel is a big deal, I guess.  I have driven thru it myself a couple of times, but I guess not at rush hour.  I had no problem.  But, Norfolk is an hour's drive, not counting the tunnel, as they say.  Sounds like the better job, tho.  sigh.

There is really nothing new in my life, just more of the same.  I am hoping some things will resolve soon.  I need a break from all this nonsense.  Oh, clannie buds......  I played my first game of Magic with Gerry.  I think he is a quick learner and might enjoy it online.  Now I have to convince him that I won't let any sharks get ahold of him.

OMG I'm 35

So it's just after midnight.  That means that techncially it's March 10th and I'm 35 today.  Each birthday makes me reflect on my life and take stock.  Am I where I want to be in life?  Have I done the things I set out to do?  I'm not sure if I am.  Then again I always have some of the same thoughts every year.  There is always something else I could have done.  A decision maybe I should not have made.

So let's look back on 34 and see what I've accomlished:

  • I ended a very toxic relationship last year with Jim
  • I finally came out (not to everyone yet but a lot of people)
  • I moved out of the ghetto
  • I got promoted twice (2nd one just barely under the wire but it counts)
  • I had my first girl kiss (woo hoo)
  • I had my first girlfriend (ok ended bad but still needed to be done)
  • I made several new friends
  • I started living life for myself instead of my daughter all the time

I guess 34 wasn't so bad after all.  I can't wait to see what 35 will bring...

I can't see worth a damn

I've worn glasses since the ninth grade, full time since the eleventh.  I'm sick of them.  A few years ago, I asked my optometrist about laser surgery.  He said "They're doing great things with astigmatism of .5 or less".  Much encouraged, I asked "What's mine?".  "5".  You'll notice the decimal point is after the 5.  Needless to say, the pop of my bubble was audible.  Well, the astigmatism is 6 now and I hate glasses, especially now that mine are starting to resemble the bottom of a coke bottle and $300 every 2 years even with insurance is really expensive.  Has anybody had a good experience with lasik for astigmatism?  Haven't even gone for an evaluation yet, scared I'm not a good candidate.  Somebody tell me a really good success story.

On a lighter note, what do you do with an elephant with three balls?  Walk him and pitch to the rhino.

Home Sweet Paperwork

Man. So if anyone ever tells you buying a house is fun shoot them. Man my wife and I have been looking and now are in the prosses of the whole loan/mortgage bit and man is it a pain. Fun, exciting and painful all at once. too much paper work and at the sam etime dealing with a collage that is trying to charge me for classes that I not only didn't take but wasn't enrolled but working a full-time and part-time job. I really cannot stand when collages do that. O well enough of that back to the paper work for the house.

The Great Canadian Flush

They said that 80% of Canada was watching the Gold Medal Game.  Those are some unreal spikes.  A whole lot of piss being emptied out between periods it appears.  They must of been drinking a lot of Molson or Moosehead.
