Diet Changes and an assignment

Diet

This has been the biggest change for me. When I was wrestling/boxing, it was a common thing to go several days without eating so I’d make weight. But 5 years of college followed by 5 years stuffed in a cubicle will change a person.

Breakfast;
Not much change here, one less egg in my omelet and a little bit of grilled turkey-ham in place of sausage.

Lunch;
I have divided my lunch from being Ramen noodles or leftovers from supper to being several small snacks. 10am I have a granola or fiber bar. Noon I have a half of a sandwich and some mixed fruit (fresh not packaged). 3pm I have whole wheat crackers.

Supper;
we have been pulling recipes from Sparkpeople.com. They are mostly easy to make with ingredients that are available, none of that gourmet dice 1oz of fresh whole stamen Saffron while you lightly simmer the milk fed yak flanks in a mixture of Brunello di Montalcino reserva and black truffle oil (actually that sounds really good but ungodly expensive)….mostly they use dried/canned/prepackaged items you can actually find at a local grocery store and can be made in a reasonable amount of time after we get home from work. My favorite is the alfredo chicken and biscuits and the baked boneless buffalo wings. But since there are only two of us so a single batch lasts for 2 meals or more thanks to proportioning meals before we sit down to eat.

The BIG changes;
I’ve cut out chocolate….it’s killing me. I feel like I’m dying inside, it is the only think that I really miss. I cut myself from 8-10 cups of coffee a day to one or none depending on the day, but that doesn’t trouble me at all compared to the lack of chocolate.
I use to keep an entire drawer of candy and chocolate at my desk, often buying cases of snickers for quick snacks…well, the drawer has gone through a substantial change, now it is empty except for a few packets of whole wheat crackers and a few granola bars. Gone is the days of buying a 10lb bag of gummy bears and eating them all over a 3 day span(I miss gummy bears).

Another addition;
I did pick up a copy of Wii Fit Plus to replace our old Wii Fit, best $20 I have ever spent on that Wii. My wife has also started working with an exercise ball; it’s a fun way of working your abs while you watch TV. Just sitting on it with your feet together has a surprising impact on your lower back and abs as you subconsciously shift your weight to keep from falling over (which may happen if you are watching something or playing a game that draws too much attention).

Since I will be away from a computer tomorrow I’ll put this up here now……

Your assignment, if you choose to accept it; (try to do #1 and atleast one of the other assignments)

“THIS IS YOU MAKING YOUR CHOICE"

1. Take a picture or two(or have someone take it of you), this is you as you are now, point out what you don’t like, make note of it and put it somewhere private and secure, but still a place where you will see it every day as a reminder of what you want to accomplish. now take a picture of your inspiration, want to look like Lou Freigno? put his picture next to yours, are you doing this for your Wife and Kids? put their pictures there too. Want to be able to run a marathon? throw in a flyer for a local charity run you plan on attending. Just make sure you are inspired by the choice you make.

2. Do something spontaneous. Don’t plan it, don’t over think it, just do it. Throw on your sneakers and take a walk, take the wife(or force your husband) out dancing, go bowling, fishing, just pick something you want to do and go do it.

3. Prepare a Garden – it is a bit early for many plants to grow, but a few can and it will be easier to plant if you have prepared the land ahead of time. Currently it is the season for planting Strawberries, Raspberries, Okra, Radishes and Asparagus. If you’re feeling brave you can Sew some seeds indoor for transplanting outside in 2 months, some of those are Eggplant, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Peppers, and Tomatoes. If they fail to germinate(or in our case, when the cats get into them) you will still have time to pick up saplings at any garden store.

Daily News

So i got into work early today for the first time in months, early as in 7am as opposed to 10 am lol. I have to go to the dealer with the wife today to turn our 2007 ford explorer in, She wants either a ford edge or a escape. they dont lease the explorer or f150 anymore because of the economy when they get them in they send them to auction and they are not seeing the return so they put the kabosh on that. I think i could live with the edge, although it really isnt up to me, its up to the wife as its for her. I like our explorer, not as much as i liked our 2004 escape though.

I got my Gamer Grafix hoodi in yesterday for Pax East, i wanted to wear it all around today but im waiting to break it out for pax. I also started planning my route to Pax last night as im driving, i was going to cut thru Canada but i dont have a passport, so im going to have to go down and around thru ohio then back up and over. its going to be one hella road trip.

I also got my vinyal sign for GG to hang at the Gamer Gone Wild party, and Omega is putting the finishing touches on the Custom Xbox this week, ive seen what the final is pretty much going to look like, and im just saying, it will be the badest xbox 360 ever made. a perfect thing for a gears head espcially since gears 3 is dropping next year. Final photo's should be up this weekend with video to.

Oh and for all you case lovers, Omega's next project is a Halo Reach Case! he has mad talent, i mean his attention to detail is stunning and inspiring.

I borrowed my father in laws digital slr d90 and his digital camcorder for Pax so i can take some bad ass pictures and video. I also just bought my friday pass for Pax last night, Im excited and nervous all at the same time, never been to Boston so i kind of want to take in some sites to, but im unsure i will have time 8(.

I hope i can get doodi, LB and jkitty together this weekend or early next week for the cp podcast, id like to record before i go to pax, everyone has been so busy. argggg.

Also if any of you are over weight and would like to lose weight, automan21k is trying to put together 202p clan called 2old4 twinkies, even if you want to just eat better or need support it will be a really good place to hang with people going thru the same thing.  I will be joining for sure, as im trying to lose about 50 pounds

Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Hangovers

Happy Saint Patrick's Day
(and hands where I can
see 'em, bitches)!

I'm not an Irish cailín with a gun,
but I play one on TV...

Yesterday was Lá Fhéile Pádraig, Saint Patrick's Day, celebrating the patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. As noted in the linked wiki article, Saint Patrick chased the snakes out of Ireland. If he were around today, he might be tasked with chasing the snakes out of Washington, D.C., a task which would require something stronger than a stout sail éille (shillelagh). He might use it to knock some sense into their heads, tho.
Have you any idea how difficult it is to find Saint Patrick's Day graphics which don't look cheesy? I gave up... Now try finding a graphic of a cute Irish girl with a gun. I had to settle for Gabrielle Anwar from Burn Notice, whose deliciously vicious Fiona Glenanne is one of my all time favorite gungirls.

My favorite version of Danny Boy
from the Coen Brothers' epic,
Miller's Crossing.

     Fun Facts about Miller's Crossing:
  • The actor who does the "Thompson Jitterbug" in the window wasn't strong enough to hold the Thompson submachinegun, which weighs 10.8 lbs. empty, aloft during the entire sequence, so a stunt man had to do it for many of the shots, no pun intended.
  • When Albert Finney is banging away with his Thompson in the street, he was aiming the ejecting brass at a trashcan on a bet from the Coen Brothers.
  • In the scene where Tom Regan (played by Gabriel Byrne) barges into the ladies room, Albert Finney has an uncredited cameo, in drag, as an elderly maid. Watch quickly, as he/she crosses him/herself and bolts from the room.

It's that Time of Night....

Nothing's wrong, nothing's right

Sublime truly piece that lyric together with me in mind.

I'm tired, but sleep eludes me.

No amount of any distraction is proving to be distracting.

I'm bummed, and I'm numb, and I've got way too much going on to take a moment for a pity party.

===============

Hope to see a lot of you a PAX East.  I assure you that my mild funk will be doused by then.

XOXO,
JC

Pain!

Pain is nothing to thumb your nose at especially for me right now.Last month we had an uncommon thing happen in my neck of the woods of Oklahoma, it snowed.It wasn't our typical type of snow but actual soft fluffy snow that you could eat right off the ground!Six inches of snow fell and it was somewhat a pain in the past snow usually turns into ice and which in turn is a common snow storm for us.Anyways the snow stopped and started melting over the next couple of days and finally turned to ice, and making things a hair slippery for everyone.

I know this because I managed to find some in front of my vehicle at six in the morning as I was clearing off the six inches of snow that had turned to ice on my windshield.It was to bad to do it came off fairly easy it wasn't solid ice but more of a crunchy kind of ice.I had just cleared the passenger side off and was walking around the front of my truck and found my new arch nemesis ICE PATCH.I stepped on my nemesis unaware he was there waiting for me, seeing as I was in a hurry to get in and get warm in my truck.I guess I should have at least acknowledged him because I slipped and fell flat on my back.

Imagine a turtle laying on its back trying get on its feet, well I sorta looked like that.But I laid there for about 5 to 10 minutes trying to figure out if I broke anything other than my nemesis when I fell.I managed to goto work and go straight to a walk in clinic after about an hour of trying to work in pain.I was off for a week with muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory medication.After that week of rest I felt all right and continued to follow the Drs orders about taking the meds for pain management to they were gone.After a couple of weeks of having no meds, I started to hurt again.I shrugged it off thinking it will go away in time and rest on the weekends..........WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Last week I woke up in pain again but this time it hurt worse than ever, the pain was radiating  from my right hip down my knee and into my groin area.I thought I must have slept wrong and attempted to go to work.I barely went down the road and had to turn around and come home.My wife was a little concerned because I had tears running down my face.I called in to work and went straight to bed.I laid there waiting in pain for my Dr's office to open so I could schedule a appointment with him asap.Well I went to it only to wind up laying down on the examantation table on my left side waiting for him to come in and give me an answer for the pain.He put me off work for another week and scheduled an MRI for the following week.

Now once again I'm off because I have two herniated  disc in my back L4 and L5, and have to go see a damn neurosurgeon for my pain next month.To tell the truth I'm scared shitless about and afraid of the the overall out come.It depresses me to be off and be stuck at home, it feels like I've been off for a month.This shit sucks!

gop out........................

One the Menu

It has been a cool rainy dreary day down here in the dirty south. So while I was getting in some quality gaming this afternoon I decided it was perfect soup weather. So on the menu this evening is Taco Soup. Fatal asked that i post the recipe, so here it is...

Taco Soup

About a pound or so of  ground beef**

1 packet of Taco seasoning**

1 can of Green Giant Southwestern corn with black beans

1 can of Hunts Diced tomatoes with green chilies

Franks or Texas Pete hot sauce.. added to taste

Prepare the ground beef as if you were going to prepare Tacos. Then simply add the remaining ingredients; corn and black beans, the diced tomatoes and the hot sauce. Cook on medium until it starts to bubble, the reduce to simmer for about 45 minutes or until ready to serve.

**I prefer to make this when I have day old taco meat in the fridge. Also remember that as you add "heat" or hot sauce, the longer it cooks the more intense the heat can be so becareful when adding hot sauce.

This is best served with Jiffy brand corn muffing mix prepared in a cast iron skillet if you have one.

Enjoy

2old4Twinkies

The clan request is in.

For those interested, I’ll start my updates here on my blog.
Since my wife and I work in the same office we get to watch over each other’s diet and push each other to meet our goals. This month we have had an added push, our office is holding a “biggest loser” competition (and while most of the people I work with are GIANT losers this is the weight loss kind of “biggest loser”) the top 3 losers based on % of weight lost in a month gets prizes, not sure what prize it will be but I intend to be the winner.

Weighing in Monday for this competition I was 226 on their scale (I was wearing heavier clothes at the time but normally average 220-225 on our Wii fit) this morning I weighed in at 218 in shorts and a t-shirt. that’s 2 pounds lighter than I have been in the past 6 months. Only 18lb to go to my first goal of 200 pounds (and when my wife and I lose 10% of our starting weight, we buy a PS3)

So what do I do for a workout?

I have a one mile walk from where I park to our office, I use to take a shuttle, but not anymore, now I walk trying to keep a 10mph pace. It is a hard push while wearing a coat and tie but manageable, with this weight loss challenge being set up in my office (both my wife and I are signed up for it) I have started taking the stairs anytime I can (including once during lunch just to get in the extra exercise….I know it’s normally not much but we work on the 9th floor. I have also started working my abs hard with crunches not even bothering to count I just push myself until I can’t go anymore.

Friday I may go shopping for a Russian kettle bell and perhaps ankle weights for that added challenge on my walk in.

I'll get into my diet changes tomorrow
