The sniper who killed 700 Soviets in 100 days.  One bad muther-f'er.

Ensconced in the snow, his white camouflage suit rendering him invisible to the invading Soviet soldiers he stalked, Simo Häyhä steadied himself to fire. During the 1939–1940 Winter War, in temperatures as low as –40 °C, the Finnish sniper undertook a killing spree that saw him single-handedly take the lives of at least 700 men in less than 100 days. Over 500 of these he shot using a standard, bolt-action rifle with non-telescopic sights. Is it any wonder he earned the nickname The White Death among his enemies? Meet the man who would take Rambo to the cleaners.

Little was the operative word. Häyhä stood just 5 ft 3 in (1.6 m) tall, which was one basis for his choice of weapon, an M/28 or M28/30 Soviet Mosin-Nagant rifle that suited his small frame. He also rejected a scoped rifle in favour of basic iron sights for other reasons: it meant he presented less of target as he could keep his head lower; it negated the risk of his position being exposed by sun glare in a telescopic lens; and lastly open sights were not prone to fogging up or breaking which was a concern in the snow and ice of the Winter War. Häyhä was a professional.

Of course an iron-sighted rifle also made aiming more difficult, but with 505 confirmed kills as a sniper – the other 200 he shot using a sub-machine gun – Häyhä clearly had a keen eye. Another tactic this greatest of gunmen used to conceal his own position from the enemy was to compact the snow before him so that his shot would not disturb the snow, and in true commando fashion he also kept his mouth was full of snow so that his breath did not give him away.

Not to long ago I purchased Nicecast by Rogue Amoeba for my Mac, which allows me to broadcast a internet radio cast to a limited audience. To increase the audience you can buy server space, etc..... etc..........., Whatever. So I have started broadcasting as of about 8:00 PM last night with 0 listeners, but that's OK. I can tune in at work through my computer to check it out. Of course I started with "Radio Clash" by the Clash. As I currently have about 50 GB of music on my Mac, I am slowly setting up playlists to broadcast, with a majority being a mix of Rock, Punk, 80's and New Brit Pop / Rock. After enjoying it at my desk this morning, it dawns on me to let other 2o2pers share in the music, if they want to check it out. My only warning is that some of the music is NSFW (for most offices), most of the music is perfectly OK. I have only tried to receive it through iTunes, but it should easily work in whatever player you are using.

It's Thursday, I'm home from work, the kiddo has gone to bed and I'm able to sit down and  fire up the 360 to play a little MW2 online for a while. I'm hoping a PCP member  is on and I'll get into some clan games but if not, I'll just work on learning the maps and try to finish up a weapon challenge I'm in the middle of.  I,m playing a bit and plip! I get an invite from Mr. Sleestak (by the way thanks!) to play COD.  Now I about to display my noobery so bear with me.  I didn't read the invite closely enough when I hit accept. The message screen says something along the line of do you want to quit this game? I'm thinking Huh? I've never seen that before. I hit the yes button and the screen pops up and says (or, what I THOUGHT it said) insert Call of Duty disc. Now, I'm really confused. The disc is in the machine so, I hit continue and I go back to the main MW2 screen and jump back into the lobby and go back to TDM.  I'm thinking oh shit, somethings wrong with the disc / machine or both. 

A brief distraction..

Just as I'm in the pre game lobby , my daughter comes down stairs to report there is a spider (HUGE !  according to her) on the ceiling in  her bedroom. Well, I have a strict spider policy in the house which is, ALL SPIDERS DIE ON SIGHT  so, upstairs I go and slay this tresspasser and rescue my kid from certain spider attack in the middle of the night. No sooner do I return from that engagement than my wife alerts me  another GIANT spider is lurking in the kitchen. (you may notice a certain genetic trait here)  Obviously, the backup for the one upstairs that I had smushed and was even then  carting to the trash can for proper burial. I guess since this was the first warm day in about three months the spiders were active and moving about.  The one in the kitchen was technically,  bigger than the one in the bedroom and it did appear to be menacing as it held it's ground. This standoff  lasted about a second before I showed the spider who was on top of the food chain.  Now, my manly duties done for a while, I'm went back to more important matters.

Where was I?  Oh yeah ...

Since the title of this is not spider slay'n, let me return to the point. I get another invite from Mr. Sleestak and this time I actually read the whole message and it says its an invite to play COD World at War.  World at War? wow, I haven't played multiplayer on that game since probably 2008. I hit accept and the disc message came back up. Ah! that's what it meant! O.K the 360 isn't going on the fritz, good!   Again noobery abounds, I didn't know you could invite someone to play a game different from the one you are currently playing. I learn something new every day.  I get out the WaW disc and put it in, and badda bing,  I'm in a lobby with Mr. Sleestak, Wipsy, Bishop and some other PCP folks. Yay! it works!

The first game was bolt action rifles no scopes (I forget the name, Iron and something) on cliffside. I had never seen this map when I was playing this game before.  It was GREAT.  No, red dots, ACOGs grenade launchers, Stabbys air strikes, anything. Just rifles and aimed fire. What a fantastic change of pace. I really enjoyed playing not only the games but with people who aren't  acting like their Ritalin prescription ran out.

The only downside was I didn't have any of the DLC map packs so I was out of the zombies matches but, I have since upgraded and next time I will have  the maps.

Again, thanks guys for the invite and the games. I look foward to a future  WaW night. 

i just recently finished bioshock 2. here's what i think:

Bioshock 1 was better.

Bioshock 2 was good, but it didn't seem to have the personality of the first one. B2 felt more like an attempt by a corporation to imitate B1. Instead of having a fresh feeling to it, it was kind of like playing an imitation, rather than a new game.

B2 was somewhat strange in that you play as a big daddy yet you get your arse spanked by the splicers as if you were naked. am i not wearing a big daddy suit? why yes i am! so why the hell am i getting spanked when i remember what a nightmare it was to kill big daddies in B1?????!!!!!

also, there was this really cheap thing about the splicers. we would clear out a room that had no other visible doors, windows, holes, cracks, etc. the only way in or out was the one door we used to enter the area. and as soon as we'd leave the room, one or more splicers would come running out of the previously empty room after us, catching us totally off guard! wtf?! thanks lazy developers! bastards!

the tape recorders are still there. they probably told you some sort of backstory, but i never figured out what the hell they were talking about. what the hell, i got an achievement for finding 100 of them. there are more but you only need to find 100 to get the achievement.

took us a month and a half to finish this thing. no, the game is not THAT long. i just ran into a lot of speedbumps along the way.

i had some of the best and worst times throughout the course of this game. and i think this may be the first time in my life that i'll be able to recall a certain period in my life and associate it with a game rather than music.

however, B2 was the best co-op experience i have EVER had!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. multiplayer blows.

Sup today peeps?? Well.....kinda hate to say it but I think the time has come for this cadillac driver to join the ranks of single folk. Me, my car, and my xbox. I'm just tired of constant struggle with me, her kids and her letting them get away with anything.....maybe I ain't cut ot to be friggin stepdad. I love'um all but honestly.....I got nothin left to give. Anyways won't bore y'all with a long drawed out story. To the ones I run with....if I seem just a bit more off or quiet than usual....well now ya know why.

For those of you following the Flynn Lives Viral Campaign for the upcoming Tron Legacy sequel to the 1982 classic film, you know that another big discovery was unearthed this past week. After a clue burried in the Discussion Forums section of the Flynn Lives web page led participants to a rather unique video game trivia quiz located on another web page at ArcadeAid.com, it was revealed that whoever could earn a perfect score there gained access to be able to create their very own Encom Employee ID Badge, theoretically for the purpose of infiltrating this fictitional computer company in the search to discover what ever happened to its former CEO (and creator of game like TRON and Space Paranoids).

Well, I returned home today to find a package from Flynn Lives in my mail box

Upon opening this package, I found a note from Zack, a key player in the ongoing Flynn Live Saga, mastermind behind the ArcadeAid web page and supposed employee of Encom.

But the full awesomeness of this package lies fully in my brand new Encom Employee ID

This ID included an Encom Employee ID number, which when entered into the Encom Intranet Web Page, along with my Flynn Lives password, granted access to this web page.

It is now the job of those of us who have gained access to this "internal" web page to snoop around and look for clues as to what the next step will be in the ongoing saga surrounding the dissapearance of Kevin Flynn. There is a section of the web page discussing an upcoming Encom press conference somewhere out West that will be coming in the next few weeks. This story is accompanied by a photo of the San Francisco skyline. So if you live in or near SF, I strongly suggest you snag an Encom badge if you still can and keep your eyes open for more Flynn Lives clues.
