I just can't stand it.

Okay, so you let a guy with a bomb in his pants slip through ... even though he was on the watch list, didn't have the right papers to fly and his father had personally called to say he was going to do bad things.  But how do you miss a guy (this time on the actual 'Do Not Board' list) who is so sick he can barely move get onto an airplane and fly all the way across the country while you recirculate his germs to all the other innocent, unsuspecting passengers?  Incompetence at a level that boggles the mind.

It's NOT the economy, stupid!

According to this article, the video game industry is not selling as many games as they used to. Why does no one come to the conclusion that we aren't buying games because they aren't making anything that is both good and new?

The Networks:  "No one watches our shows!"

Hollywood:  "No one goes to our movies!"

Game Industry: "No one buys our games!"

To which I reply "Quit making crap and then we'll see ..."

Memorial Day 2009

Always Remember
Last year I started this little mini tradition which allows me some time to pause and reflect on the price of freedom and to remember those that have paid that price for us. I am grateful that the list this year is much shorter than last year's, and pray that the list next year will be shorter still or non-existent.

This time of year, you will often here people say "never forget". But I prefer to flip it around and phrase it "always remember". Forgetting is a passive action, and one may not even know that they have forgotten something. Remembering is active. It is something you have to set aside time to do. Today is the day for setting aside some time to remember those that have fallen in service to their country. Below is a list of all US service members that have died from my state of Ohio since last Memorial Day. Each line contains the date they were killed, their age, and a few details of their passing. The link is to their Faces of the Fallen profile which is hosted by The Washington Post should you wish to read a little bit more about them. The profile also often contains links to obituaries, news articles, and a site where you can leave a note of your own.

One last quick note, Memorial Day is for remembering those that have fallen. While I, or probably any other veteran, appreciate being thanked for our service, today is not the day for that. Today is for remembering in your own way, those who are not here to be thanked.

Power to the People!

Thank you to those of you that took action based upon my previous blog.  According to the American Legion website, it appears as if the plan to have veterans pay for their own health care has been tabled - at least for now.  I plan to keep an eye on this and I'll send up the ballons again if I see someone trying to sneak this through.

Confused priorities

I'm going to be a little late to work today because I need to phone my congressman and find out why we can afford to hand out billions to banks, insurance companies, automakers and others that have proven a knack for mismanaging funds, but we are going to deny funds to the one group of people that we should actually be taking care of? People who stepped up and answered the call are being told "Sorry, there's no money for you" while corporate executives are cashing multi-million dollar checks backed with my money? If this pisses you off, please make sure someone that can affect a change in this policy knows about your displeasure. Here are some links to help get you started:
