I ain't to proud to Patriots

First off I'm not a Patriots fan.  Also I’m not a Madden god I lose all the time and am in no way trying to come off like I am the best cause I’m not.

The title of this entry is about Madden 09 and tournament play.   I have a buddy who is convinced he's ready for the Madden bus.  We enter local contests and sometimes travel to other cities near our area to play in there tournaments.  Yet every year he gets his ass handed to him because he's too proud to pick the teams with top player ratings example the Colts.  Last Tuesday we entered a tournament and he ended up getting whooped by a 15 year old who used??????

You guessed it the Patriots.   My buddy’s team?   The Oakland Raiders whom if you follow football you know that there is a huge difference in talent on both those squads.   So of course my friends skills may have been better (I’m not saying the kid wasn’t good because he played a solid no cheese game) but you could tell my friend was the better player he just couldn’t overcome the talent factor.    Of course my friend walks away from the controller defeated and gives his classic excuse. If he wouldn’t have used the Patriots he wouldn’t have won.    Well probably not but if the kid would have used any of the other 90+ rated teams he more then likely would have won with them as well.

Now at a friends house or over Live or PSN it's not a big deal in my eyes to keep with your favorite team and no matter the statistics play with them and learn to utilize there strengths to the fullest but for myself when it's a tournament.  I coined the phrase "Ain't to proud to Patriots"  basically meaning why hamstring yourself when there is true prizes/competition on the line by picking a lesser team because you are either a die hard fan of the team, or have a inflated view of your skills.    Usually in a tournament I will try to match the ratings of my opponent with a team of equal strength.  Because at least then you know if you lose it wasn't because you have a corner whose rating is 85 going up against Randy Moss with a rating of 99.

Of course the argument rages on but I think he may be finally seeing the light. Cause recently he started using the Jaguars with the intent to make them his tournament team.
As to his Raiders he still uses them against me so that I can beat him with the Dolphins .

Oh one more thing. Grab some popcorn folks!

Being a child of the 80's I love scifi/fantasy films.   The 90's had it's share of great scifi but one movie stands the test of time where it's just as good today as when I first seen it.    See some movies kick big ass.  Then they  made Starship Troopers........    A lot of people slept on this film when it was released in theaters.   I was a fan of Paul Verhoeven when he made Robocop another film which stands the test of time.    Starship Troopers showed earth as a global facist society  in a galactic fight against a race of insects bent on destroying our civilization.   Over the top violence and social satire combined with awesome action and special effects made it a great classic.  If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

Well let's jump to 2008 coming out today is Starship Troopers 3 marauder.   Basically a true sequel to the original (Part 2 was more of a side story.)  Now granted this is a DTV production but it's directed by the person who wrote the original so I'm hoping it's just a bit close to the greatness of the original SST.     Casper Van Dien you might know this dude he is in every b rated scifi channel flick.  Returns as Johnny Rico to battle the arachnids once again.   Let's hope the violence and social satire is there again.   I dont expect the special effects to be that good but hey it's DTV what can you expect.  Here's hoping it does the original justice.

I cant wait to watch it this evening.

I'll admit it.

I have videogame adhd.  I'm one of those dudes that will start a game get 3/4's the way thru then quit with the full intention to return a couple of days later to finish the game when I have time.  Well about 50% of the time that doesn't happen.  So usually what does happen is that I end up returning to it a couple months later and have to start over completely so that I can refresh my memory about the story etc.   That's happening again today as I go about finishing Lost Odyssey for xbox 360 not super memorable as JRPGS go but still a good solid long game which is what I like.    So my gaming goals (That's funny if you think about it goals within gaming considering so many goals I have get pushed to the wayside for gaming.  Just ask my wife she wanted me to have the basement painted by the end of summer) is to get some of these partially or almost fully finished games planted into the field.   I think I'm just about to the end of LO so hopefully I can have this one done by the end of the week.

Victory!

There is huge satisfaction you get from finishing a game you hate.   One that frustrates you for any number of reasons till you want to break the disk and be done with it forever.  Well tonight I did.  Ninja Gaiden 2 is now in the finished bracket at the field.   I'm pleased and feeling a bit cheated because it had such potential but failed in my eyes to live up to the originals fun facter.   My rating for NG2 is rental at best.   My new mantra is now rent before you buy which I will start chanting in my head every time I start believing the hype about a sequel to a game I loved.

Chant it with me folks.  Rent before you buy.  Rent before you buy.  Rent before you buy.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is aging me before my time.

Ninja Gaiden Black was a great game.   Scratch that NGB was a kick ass game.  That's why I felt it was a no brainer to pick up team ninjas sequel to the original without following my cardinal rule.  Rent before you buy.   It's a rule I stand by and one I rarely break except for titles which seem like a sure thing.     I should have seen the signs of something not being right by the lack of a demo also there didn’t seem to be a review of the game until a couple days after release a trend I have seen more and more of lately.   Well firing the game up I realized why.   NG2 is a  mess.

It has one of the worst camera systems I have seen in a long time.    I can’t tell you how many times I have died because a foe is off screen and attacks me from behind.   I have since adopted a constant holding of the block button for just this issue.   Which works sometimes but with the block breaking attacks that some enemies possess you will be seeing the game over screen way more then sanity can take.   I swear once I'm finished with this piece of pretty garbage I am selling it.   I will have to be more disciplined about my gaming purchases from now on.

Or at least until Gears 2 and Fallout 3 are released.  Here's hoping I dont get burned again.
