Update

I got another spine shot today. It was supposed to be a consultation with a PA, but the doctor was there so he just did it to save time, sweet .

The last one wore off a week and a half ago, so the pain was getting intense again. It will be a few days for this to start working but it is still a week or two ahead of schedule.

This is getting old quick. My winter is usually spent getting game time in, but it has only happened three or four times. I should have the surgery next month and will have some healing time, so it looks like I'll be gaming into the summer. I will be following the doctor’s instructions to the letter, so I won’t be able to do much more than that.

One bonus so far is that when I go to physical therapy after the operation the Doctor is going to add a weight loss program with it. So I'll get my back strengthened up and drop a few pounds at the same time.

I saw the Neurosurgeon yesterday and it went very well. Except for hearing my L4 disk is herniated, everything else I head was different. Fusing the disks IS the LAST resort. I can and should try Micro-dissection first. Basically he can go in a small incision with tiny little tools, cutting the bulge and sewing it up. No more pain or loss of movement. If all goes well I can be completely back to “normal” in a few months.

I am pretty pissed at the Spine surgeon and although I’m not one for Suing, so I won’t, I feel the need to do something.

The Spine Surgeon never mentioned Neurosurgery, he did say he spends a lot of time “Fixing” other doctors mistakes. He said because of my age and the condition of my spine (it’s been used hard) there is nothing other than Fusing that can be done for me. He also said “Nothing I can do will make the hernia any worse” and that the 50 Percocet’s he would give me should last about six weeks.

Luckily I did some research and talked to a few people who had and have back problems instead of taking his word for it and just getting the disks fused months ago when I first saw him.

The Neurosurgeon said Micro-dissection is the first thing to try. I should not to do any heavy lifting, twisting, bending or sitting for long periods of time. And that 90 Percocet’s a Month along with the spine shots would be the average course of action to deal with the pain until the problem is solved.

I have been trying to live a normal life, lifting, bending and sitting at my desk, while rationing the pain pills only taking one when the pain got to bad to control. So the last two months I have been doing things that made the problem worse and have been dealing with pain I didn’t need to deal with.

I have a tentative date for the Micro-dissection on April 20th.
