New Job

Started a new job a few weeks ago - one interesting thing about my new work environment is a "scent-free" zone.  Anyone have this?  It's a group of cubicles in a far corner that people who wear cologne or scented lotions cannot walk through.  The people there have bad reactions to almost any kind of smell.  So bad, in fact, that they leave work if they are subjected to a smell that causes a reaction.  At first I thought it was kinda funny, but the more I think about it - the more it's starting to make sense.

The Waiting is a Bitch

I don't blog about reality too much - but here it goes....

I interviewed for my dream job Friday morning.  Why is it my dream job? - well, there's a lot of different reasons.  One of the main reasons is that I have been a retail drone for a long time - 12 years in fact.  My "high point" being SM for Blockbuster... I left that job last August and focused on my college.  My dream job is as follows:

Not in retail

challenging work

respectable hours

paid holidays (and off)

intelligent co-workers

advancement

excellent pay and benefits

Now I am sure that this may be the list of dream job factors for a lot of people - and I also am aware that some of you already have it - good for you.  I have not realized this for a long time.  I have been working my ass off for the last 4 years pursuing a degree and working full time.  I think my work may have finally paid off.

I interviewed for the State of California.  Employment Development Department to be exact.  I will either be an information gatherer for unemployment claims or a decision maker.  Civil service was one of my goals when I started online classes to better my career.  I got the interview and now I am waiting.

The interview (IMHO) went fantastic.  I even met one of the people that was going to interview me on the elevator before the interview (brownie points).  The only issue is the waiting.  Currently I am part-time at another retail job (they promised me full-time+management) and the waiting is torture.  Torture because I hate what I am doing and also because...

I should take into consideration the possibility that I read the entire process wrong and everyone hated me.

I will not be good company the next (up to 2 weeks) and even worse company if I don't get it.

Another bonus is that the job may be in San Francisco (or Oakland).  I have lived in the Bay Area for quite some time and working in The CIty would be ths shit to me.
