12/29/09Flagged as NSFW

Maiden Voyage

I am unsure how the flame of desire to create gameplay montages sparked in my 41 year old female heart, but it did. One Dazzle Plus capture card, three RCA splitters, one RCA cable, and hours of trial and error later, I present thee my first undertaking! This is my introductory venture into any type of video editing, so please keep that in mind. Constructive criticism is welcome, especially from those of you with experience in this type of material.

I marked it NSFW due to explicit lyrics.

Blood and Glory!

Productive weekend!

I'm sure I have done irreparable damage to my feng shui energy and balance, but I painted two living room walls red!  Yes, really, really red with a black glaze.  I also found out just how difficult it is to get a good, clean line when painting a very dark color against a very white wall...my OCD picks up every little spot outside the lines...and now I need to paint the other two walls in the room, but definitely something neutral.  LOL

I finished Oblivion (Game of the year edition) with a perfect achievement score - and I am now hoping to have a little bit of my life back from that soul sucking, time draining, all-consuming game.

Miss Lurker: Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the solitude

As of late, I have read several blogs by folks concerned with the 2O2P members remaining locked within their respective tribes, barely venturing out from the confines of their individual clan forums. Well, I am the exact opposite – I am the reclusive wanderer, the Peeping Tom, the voyeur. And frankly, I have always preferred watching rather than group participation. I am an autonomous member, a free-roamer, a drifter even!

“I am a loner, Dottie. A rebel!” (thanks Pee Wee!)

No man is an island, but solitude has its advantages.

I have never really yearned for a sense of community. Once you join a clan you are obligated, whether it is insinuated or outright required, to participate in the group’s activities. There would be pressure to engage in said functions – and I imagine I would suddenly find myself coming up with excuses for my abstinence and then simultaneously feeling guilty about it. And what of clan night? I do not play any form of adversarial multi-player. I willingly limit myself to single player, co-op, or GOW2 horde mode. I enjoy playing with other people, not against them. I am a non-combative, uncompetitive, and quiet gamer, hence completely unsuited for multi-player matches! And I am comfortable with that – repeated attempts to talk me into playing multi-player will only frustrate me and make me feel manipulated.

Yes, I am aware there is a perceived shallowness in my non-committal stance. But look at it this way, I make the perfect diplomat. I am the trusted confidant, the secret keeper, the gaming buddy. I am nonpartisan. I see myself as the Switzerland of 2O2P – My jurisdiction is open-ended and I am allowed my freedom. Yes, I am a withdrawn fence sitter, but I will objectively listen to all sides.

I feel there is room for everyone at 2O2P; it is an inclusive website, minus the racist, hate-filled asshats, and the shrieking youngsters. What is 2O2P striving for? Do you want there to be requirements for participation? Must everyone pick sides and join a clan? I think it is important to have all kinds of people in the mix; the social caretakers, the organizers, the greeters, the judges, the party planners, the moody bloggers, the wallflowers, and the free spirits. We can all exist side by side, yes? And the website functions successfully. We all did not arrive here with the same wants, needs, and desires. Yes, there is a foundation (older gamers), but then it diverges into varying ideals. Some come seeking a clan, while others enjoy the dialogue, game reviews, gossip, or finding a few friends to game with. There is a success story in our diversity!

You'll notice below that "Social" is not at the top of the pyramid!

Raccoon Stew

My ex arrives at my place of employment yesterday looking quite grim and clearly upset.  He instructs me that I need to come outside, it is VERY important.  He leads me over to his truck and begins waving his hands wildly, attempting to explain the urgency of the matter and his complete lack of knowing what to do NOW!  Inside of his truck, I see two milk crates with raccoons inside.  One clearly is sufferring, almost totally non-responsive.  His leg was completely mangled.  I instructed the exasperated ex to take him to the wildlfe sanctuary to be euthanized immediately.  My next question, of course, is WHERE did you get them?  Apparently one of his customers traps raccoons and then transfers them to milk crates until he can take them to some god-forsaken southern fuck-wad's place to sell them as FOOD.  My ex paid the guy $20.00 for both of them.  I am not even starting the argument here concerning animals as food.  Not my point in this blog.  It is the absolute lack of compassion.  He purchased them after already being in these crates for two days, but their captivity in these tiny milk boxes could be 4-5 days straight.  They sit in their own waste with no water or food, obviously terrified.

I took the other one home and released her.  I only hope she can survive.  But if she perishes, at least she died free and not tortured for days before ending up on someone's plate for dinner.  Seriously though, LOOK at HER!  How can you look into those eyes and not FEEL compassion or sorrow?  Why must you subject your food to brutality before slaughter?
